Warhammer: The Horus Heresy is set during the civil war between the Emperor’s Loyalist forces and the armies that follow Horus, around ten thousand years before Warhammer 40,000. The conflict is also known as the Age of Darkness and provides the setting for battles between Space Marine Legions and other forces of the Imperium.
The Legiones Astartes range includes Space Marines in MkII Crusade, MkIII Iron, MkIV Maximus and MkVI Corvus armour. Those armour marks give squads distinct period looks, while Legion-specific characters and details further shape an army’s identity. Contemptor and Leviathan Dreadnoughts and vehicles such as the Land Raider Proteus provide larger modelling projects. Solar Auxilia represent a separate human military force within the setting. Upgrade sets, weapon packs and alternative parts are made for particular kits or armour marks, so their intended use matters when planning conversions or specialist units alongside the core Legion range.
